Erinnert Ihr Euch noch an dem Mai 2003? Da hieß es von Seiten Microsofts:

Und nun berichtet Golem.de:

Wie bekannt wurde, plant Microsoft neue Hauptversionen seines Browsers im Jahresabstand, so dass der Internet Explorer 8 spätestens Ende 2007 kommen sollte.

Also ein derartiges Aussagen-Zick-Zack bin ich sonst eigentlich nur von Politikern gewöhnt. Ich frage mich, warum es noch immer Leute gibt, die den IE alls besten und alleinigen Browser verwenden. Eigentlich müsste der aufgrund der verworrenen Produktstrategie aus vielen Unternehmen rausfliegen.

Es ging ja durch alle Medien: Microsoft will Berichte über sein kommendes Office-produkt gegenlesen und „korrigieren”, wenn man mit dem Medium eine Office Beta Cd vertreiben will.

Mittlerweile widerspricht Microsoft diesen Vorwürfen und auch einige Medien sagen aus, dass Microsoft nicht in die Berichterstattung eingreift.

Nur in Österreich ist es ruhig. Die üblichen Verdächtigen, darunter auch einer, der bereits eine Office-CD Beilage angekündigt hat, verhalten sich still und reagieren auch nicht auf Leseranfragen zu diesem Thema (wie meistens werden die Probleme einfach ausgesessen). Es würde mich aber wundern, wenn Microsoft derartig in die Berichterstattung eingreifen würde – ich hatte/habe öfter mit Microsoft Österreich zu tun und den Damen und Herren dort würde es nie einfallen, sich derartig in die Berichterstattung einzumischen, auch wenn Sie natürlich darum bemüht sind, ihre Produkte im besten Licht darzustellen.

Mal schaun, ob eine Office-CD in einem österreichischen Medium auftaucht und wie die dazugehörige Berichterstattung ist.

Schön, der Datenaustausch zwischen EU und den USA ist illegal. Das hat der Europäische Gerichtshof (EuGH) diese Woche festgestellt. NACH ZWEI JAHREN !!!!

Worauf aber keiner der Artikel eingeht, die ich gelesen habe ist die Frage, was mit den Daten passiert, die bereits ausgetauscht wurden. Und was für Auswirkungen hat diese Entscheidung nun für uns Normalsterbliche die wir in die USA reisen müssen/wollen? Geht das jetzt auf einmal ohne Datenaustausch oder werden die weiterhin ausgetauscht, allerdings ohne Sanktus?

Alles zurück. Der Kurier hat einen entsprechenden Artikel. Auch nicht schlecht. Entweder handeln sie einen Verzicht aus (warum ging das nicht schon vor zwei Jahren) oder sie ändern die Gesetze in Europa. WTF? Können uns die USA nun schon die Gesetze ansagen?

Hurra! Drei Frauen sprechen zum Thema Vatertag – sehr passend. Kann sich noch jemand an den Aufschrei bezgl. des männlichen Frauenministers Haupt erinnern? Aber „leider” haben wir Männner ja keine entsprechende Lobby.

Ich habe ja bereits meine Probleme, die ich mit Lenovos ThinkVantage „Access Connections” Tool in der Version 4.12 und den Treibern meiner WLAN-Karte Intel 2200 BG wireless auf Englisch beschrieben. Auch eine Lösung dazu habe ich bereits gefunden. Nachdem das Problem auch im deutschsprachigen Thinkpad-Forum immer wieder auftaucht, habe ich mich an diesem verregneten Sonntag hingesetzt und auch eine deutsche Version der Problemlösung verfasst, damit ich jederzeit darauf verlinken kann.

Das Problem: Nach einem Update der ThinkVantage Tools oder der Installation eines anderen Programms bzw Treibers (Bluetooth ist hier ein heißer Kandidat) leuchtet die WLAN-Kontrollleuchte des ThinkPads ununterbrochen, aber das Access Connections Programm (AC) kann die WLAN-Karte weder konfigurieren, noch aus oder ein schalten. Auch mit Fn-F5 kann man die WLAN-Karte nicht deaktivieren. Verwendet man hingegen die Intel-Tools und den Drahtlosnetzwerkinstallations-Assistent von Windows XP SP2, so funktioniert die Karte wunderbar.

Nach langem Herumprobieren, habe ich dann – dank eines Postings im englischsprachigen Thinkpad-Forum. – die Lösung gefunden. Schuld an der Misere ist die DLL „libeay32.dll”, die in verschiedenen Versionen auf dem PC vorhanden sein kann. Beheben lässt sich das Problem ohne Neuinstallation des Systems, in dem man einen Eintrag ändert und den Rechner neu startet.

Yesterday, I described my problem that Lenovos ThinkVantage tool „Access Connections” Version 4.12 could not turn my Intel 2200 BG wireless (WLAN or WiFi) card on or off. In fact, these two couldn’t communicate with each other at all. After much thinking and trial and error I finally found a solution in one of the Thinkpad-forums.

My Thinkpad T42p (2668-Q1) doesn’t love me any more. More detailed: the ThinkVantage Access Connections tool just won’t talk to the built in Intel 2200BG Wireless card any more. Unfortunately I can’t pinpoint the exact cause of this problem any more. I can remember, that I updated Access Connections (AC) from 4.11 to 4.12, and did not reboot. After that, I connected a new cell phone via bluetooth (more drivers installed) and a while after that I rebooted and wham - no WLAN any more.

Dear podcasters, dear interviewee,

• Turn OFF all cell phones. Switching your cell phone to vibrate won’t help, you can still hear that in the podcast.
• Turn of your system sounds. Your listeners do not want to hear your new mail notification, etc.
• Turn of your PDA(s). Your listeners do not want to hear your reminder sounds, etc.
• Get a Pop Screen. Really. I mean it. Either buy one, or build it yourself. It will make your recording more understandable. Believe me.
• Use a wind shield if the microphone is right in front of your mouth (headset). There is not much that is more annoying than the constant breathing noises in the podcast.

Der BOFH ist eine Erfindung von Simon Travaglia. Die Geschichten wurden erstmals 1992 im Usenet geposted und dann später von Magazinen wie Datamtion oder Network Week abgedruckt. Seit dem Jahr 2000 publiziert The Register neue BOFH-Geschichten online.

Dass es PDFs davon gibt ist genauso traurig wie die Tatsache, dass es zum Teil deutsche Ãœbersetzungen gibt (warum ich das traurig finde, sollte dieser Blogeintrag erklären). Einen Ãœberblick über ALLE BOFH-Folgen gibt es im „The Bastard Operator from Hell Official Archive”.

Mail to all: Nice HTML-Mail including a nice logo, telling people that a new organisational circular letter is available on the intranet. After logging into the Intranet (no, the browser is not allowed to save the username & password), you see the same announcement and a link. If you click on the link, a PDF-file opens.

No, they can’t/won’t link directly to the PDF.

And please do not be surprised at Groupwise saving the list of all recipients in EVERY copy of the e-mail, thereby clogging everybodies inbox. ARGL.

Phew, two projects finished, the big backlog @ othercustomer processed in a way that a) he is happy and b) I can work more relaxed again.

The stupid SmartFilter software, a censorware product of the company Secure Computing, reminds me of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal that believes that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you.

Cory Doctorow now posted a few lines for your .htaccess file to keep the Smartfilter bots out, so they can’t see and therefore can’t block your site. Please adopt. ;)

Dieser Tage hat sich die Telekom Austria aka. aon.at mal wieder selber kräftig abgefeiert. Grund für die Freude war das tausendste Weblog, das im Rahmen des Weblife Dienstes bei aon.at registriert wurde.

Man gebe sich die Lobeshymnen:

Liebe TA, darf ich das mal in Relation stellen? 1.000 Weblogs bei einem Dienst, der nur aon-Kunden zur Verfügung steht. OK.
Technorati, eine der bekanntesten Blog-Suchmaschinen, hat 37,3 Mio. Sites und 2,3 Mrd. Links im Index – weltweit.
Wenn mich meine Mathematikkentnisse nicht ganz im Stich lassen, würde die Weblife-Blogs etwa 0,00268 Prozent der bei Technorati verzeichneten Blogs ausmachen. „I am important, screamed the dustspeck”, fällt mir da nur noch ein.

Und „frühzeitig” habt ihr den Trend auch nicht erkannt. Den Dienst Blogger gibt es seit 1999, ebenso den Begriff „Blog” und die österreichische Bude Knallgrau betreibt seit 2003 die Bloggingplattform twoday.net, welche auf dem älteren antville basiert, recht erfolgreich. Also nix mit Trendsetter, Zeitgeist und frühzeitig.

Und dann wäre da auch noch die Frage bzgl. der Genauigkeit der Daten. In der Aussendung wird http://olson06.weblife.at/ als das tausendste Weblog angeführt. Als ich heute (1. Mai 2006) auf die Weblife-Homepage ging, waren aber nur 926 Blog registriert.

Hmmmmmmmm.
