Vor dem letzten Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson hat sich Nicole „Ein bißchen Frieden” Seibert in der Bild-Zeitung unter dem Titel „Was habt ihr aus unserem schönen Grand Prix gemacht?” zu Porno-Sängerinnen und Grusel-Rockern geäußert:

Vor 24 Jahren hatte ich die große Ehre, Deutschland beim Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson vertreten zu dürfen.
…
Ich hatte unerhörten Respekt vor diesem ehrwürdigen Wettbewerb und habe versucht, mein Land würdig zu vertreten.
…
Ich kann nicht verstehen, wie das Grand-Prix-Komitee es zulassen kann, daß dieser traditionelle Liederwettstreit von solchen Leuten mißbraucht und beschmutzt wird.

Liebe Nicole, wie wäre es auch mit ein bißchen Respekt vor einem der ganz großen Lieder meiner Jugend? Ich kann nicht verstehen, dass George Michael es zugelassen hat, dass Du diese ganz große Nummer, den größten Beitrag der Popkultur zum Kanon der Weihnachtslieder derartig schlecht covern durftest.

Falls Ihr nicht wisst, wovon ich schreibe:

ZDFonline: Nicole, Sie singen in der Show „Die schönsten Weihnachts-Hits” den Titel „Last Christmas” aus Ihrem aktuellen Weihnachtsalbum. Warum haben Sie gerade diesen Song ausgewählt?
Nicole: „Last Christmas” ist eines der bekanntesten Weihnachtslieder überhaupt. George Michael hat es geschafft, einen neuen Titel zum Klassiker zu machen. Ich wollte zeigen, wie dieses Lied von einer Frau gesungen klingt. Das reizvolle an der Sache war, eine Variation zu bieten und meinen eigenen Stil mit einzubringen.

Und das ist Ihr nicht gelungen. Brrrrrrrrrr.

In March, I complained about a missing feature in Vim 7. Using the default gvimext.dll, there is an option in the Windows Explorer to „Open in new Vim” or „Open in existing Vim”, but no to say „Open as new Tab in existing Vim”. I found a replacement on the web but that site went away not long after I found it.

Now, Tianmiao Hu uploaded an alternative version of gvimext.dll to vim.org witch supports loading files into a VIM tab. From his „readme”:

This update to gvimext.dll supports the loading of files under a new tab in VIM 7. Both the gvimext.dll and its updated source codes are provided in the attached zip file.
 
I believe this code change will be included in the upcoming VIM release. So this upload is for the brave and the impatient.
 
Below is the usage:
0. The new dll will display „Edit with … using tabs” options upon right-click on files in Windows Explorer based on a registry key and the Shift key combination.
1. If you don’t import UseTab.reg file into registry, gvimext.dll will behave just like before the change. You can still get the „using tabs” options by holding down the Shift key before right-clicking the files.
2. Shift key effect
Shift key serves as a toggle key for the „Edit with … using tabs” context menu. If you hold down the Shift key and then right-click the selected files in Windows Explorer, the opposite of the default Vim context menu will display.

Lenovo hat die ersten Thinkpad T-Modelle mit Widescreen angekündigt. Erhältlich sind (in den USA, zu Österreich hab ich noch keine Daten) zwei Ausprägungen mit 15.4” WXGA (1280x800) TFT bzw. 15.4” WSXGA+ (1680x1050) TFT.

David Hill meint dazu in Lenovos „Design Matters” blog:

This is the first true classic design ThinkPad to feature a wide screen view. Previous ventures in this space used the experimental Z series design. […] Aside from the screen, it’s design is pretty much the same as the current T60.

Ich persönlich bin von dem 16:10 Format nicht wirklich überzeugt. Ok, bei ein paar Tools hat man dann auf der Seite mehr Platz, aber das kanns doch nicht sein. Die bewährten Formate wie A4 oder die Spalten einer Zeitung sind ja so gestaltet, weil sich ein Text mit kurzen (schmalen) Zeilen leichter liest, als einer mit laaaaangen (breiten) Zeilen. Auf einem breiten Schirm habe ich nicht mehr alle Informationen auf einen Blick – das mag ich nicht. Und schaut Euch doch mal die Desktop-TFTs an – wo sind denn da die 16:9/16:10 Displays?

Solange Lenovo dabei bleibt, dass die Widescreens eine Ergänzung zu den klassischen Displays sind, finde ich es gut, dass es die neuen Modelle gibt. So muss man nicht mehr zu den Sony-artigen Z-Modellen greifen, wenn man aus irgendeinem Grund einen Widescreen möchte/braucht. Aber wehe Euch, Lenovo, wenn es das Arbeitstier unter den Thinkpads nur mehr mit breitem Arsch gibt!

Gizmondo has a story on Steve Ballmer looking like Uncle Fester from the TV series „The Addams Family”. If you do a Google-Imagesearch on „Uncle Fester”, you will find Steve on Page two. According to one of the Gizomondo readers, someone at MS entered ‘uncle fester’ as a keyword on the corresponding Microsoft webpage for google to find.

Not that this is new information. I had a similar posting up in March 2004.

Via digg, I came across „The 5 Books that Every Programmer Should Read” by Shane Sherman. I don’t agree with his selection on all points. IMHO, Joel Spolsky’s list would fit my preferences better. I especially like this comment:

I think that this book, universally known as K&R, is THE book anyone who wants to be a programmer must learn first. Pick it up and work through it in detail. If you love every minute of it, you can be a programmer. If you find this old-school text programming stuff boring, or the pointer stuff drives you crazy, trust me, you’re not going to like programming very much.
