Playstation 3: Termin Fix, nur teure Version erhältlich

Nun bekommen auch die leicht deppaten Hinterwäldler die PS3. Laut pressetext.at hat Sony den 23. März 2007 als Starttermin für die Playstation 3 (PS3) bestätigt. Warum Hinterwäldler? Naja, anders kann ich es nicht mehr bezeichnen. Sony muss die Europäer wohl nicht für voll/wichtig sehen, sonst hätten wir ja die PS3 gleichzeitig mit den USA bekommen.

Und das Beste: Dafür, dass wir als Letzte die PS3 kaufen „dürfen”, ermöglicht es uns Sony auch gleich, dass wir ganz viel Geld dafür zahlen dürfen: Zunächst wird nur das Modell mit der 60 Gigabyte großen Festplatte erhältlich sein.. Und davon will Sony in der Launch-Phase eine Mio. Stück verkaufen. Da kann man nur hoffen, dass die Kunde Sony einen Strich durch die Rechung machen und warten, bis die billigere Variante auf den Markt kommt.

Das war die Null-Meldung der Woche.

Hass 2.0

Web 2.0 gewinnt bei Urlaubsplanung an Bedeutung
 
Vor der Buchung einer Reise wird im Internet gesurft: Ob es um die Suche nach einer Unterkunft geht oder Bewertungsseiten und Weblogs zu Rate gezogen werden - die Online-Urlaubswelt und so genannte Web 2.0-Portale entwickeln sich zum Renner.

Und was hat das mit dem Web 2.0 zu tun? Dass die User bei der Suche nach interessanten Destinationen Web 2.0 Technologien und Ideen verwenden mag ja nett sein, aber wo ist der „wow, das ist aber neu und innovativ” Gedanke?

11,5 Prozent recherchierten vor einem Österreich-Urlaub in Online-Tagebüchern. Das Vertrauen der Reisewilligen in Kundenbewertungen auf Internet-Portalen scheint generell sehr ausgeprägt zu sein.

Deshalb habe die Österreich Werbung auch Starthilfe für die Internet-Community coolaustria.com gegeben, auf die ab 31. Jänner Reiseberichte vom Urlaub in Österreich, Fotos und Geheimtipps gestellt werden können. Für das mit dem Wirtschaftsministerium (BMWA) initiierte Projekt …

Ahh, daher weht der Wind. Dieser „Artikel” ist eine Werbeeinschaltung für das kommende Portal. Aber ob das künstliche Portal einer Werbeagentur gegen die etablierten Web 2.0 Player ankommt? TripAdvisor verfügt über mehr als 5.000.000 Artikel, auf TravBuddy kann man schnell und einfach ein Reiseblog erstellen, hat uinlimitierten Foto-Upload, usw. Und dann gibt es noch 43places, Epictrip, TripHub, World66, Thisplaceiknow oder Rent Me A Vacation.

Und dagegen wollen die mit einer 20.000 Euro Lösung ankommen. LOL.

Und wer kommt bitte auf die Idee, bei Youtube, MySpace oder Flickr nach Reiseinfos zu suchen???

Fazit: Ein Artikel zum Wegschmeissen. Wenig Recherche, viel Werbung und ein paar Buzzwords, damit es modern klingt. Brrrrrr.

Microsoft still doesn't get the Internet

Microsoft is not very good at covering up its own mistakes. Do they really think, they can get away with a note saying This press release has been edited since original publication.? Not in todays world.

The current press release regarding „Microsoft Makes It Easier for Organizations to Transition to Its Unified Communications and Collaboration Platform” reads:

More and more companies worldwide are making the strategic business decision to move to Microsoft’s unified communication and collaboration platform because of its integrated set of capabilities as well as new innovations including support for wikis, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, blogs, social networking tools, unified messaging and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) integration.

But the original version stated:

More and more companies worldwide are making the strategic business decision to move to Microsoft’s unified communication and collaboration platform because of its integrated set of capabilities as well as new innovations including support for wikis, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, blogs, social networking tools, unified messaging and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) integration. Microsoft represented 52 percent of the integrated collaborative environments market revenue in 2005, and experienced double-digit growth year over year the two years before (indicating 2004 and 2003), according to analyst firm IDC.

Strange, that they pulled that sentence, as there seems to be no report by IDC on „the integrated collaborative environments market”.

Dear Microsoft, YOU CAN NOT CONTROL THE INTERNET. What happens on the Internet/WWW, stays on the Internet/WWW. Period!

Vista - Available soon

On January 30th Microsoft releases to consumers the newest version of its operating system, called Windows Vista. And as the media will be full of „vista is soo cool and innovative and enhancing productivity”, here are some interesting links.

With User Account Control in the new Windows Vista operating system, you can reduce the risk of exposure by limiting administrator-level access to authorized processes.

Although the statement Vista, its long-awaited update to the Windows operating system, can’t run the current version of SQL Server is not correct, Microsoft admits, that they have a problem with UAC:

It is true that there is a known issue related to how Vista User Account Control impacts the ability to connect to a default installation of SQL Express SP1

Now, if even Microsoft can’t get their applications to work together properly with UAC, I do not even want to think about other software vendors, given the standards of microsofts public documentation.

DPI Lab 2007 - Recommended Reading

Carol Zimmet from the Deployments, Performance, & Interoperability (DPI) Lab posted a Recommended Reading list on their blog in response to suggestions we’ve received from you.

Unfortunately, she only posted a word-file (jup, not even in Openoffice.org format!!!) with all the links regarding articles, whitepapers, RedBooks, etc., that we’ve developed and we recommend for production environments.

Domino 8 - Best of

Here are a few – at least to me – interesting facts on Domino 8, that I collected at several sessions during Lotusphere 2007:

1. ND8 adds support for 2048 bit keys for users and servers and 4096 bit key for certifiers
2. Weak and medium encryption options have been removed from NSF file encryption (Existing databases using Weak or Medium encryption still supported)
3. Still no support for CRLs, but for OCSP (RFC 2560) for checking revocation status of X.509 certificates.
   
   • OCSP is the way to go, as David S. Kern, resident Paranoid Lotus Software put it, as I asked him in the lab.
     
   • And … drumroll please … against all odds, A-Trust allready supports OCSP. Now I am a happy camper. :)
     
   • OCSP must be enabled to be used: OCSP_RESPONDER, OCSP_LOGLEVEL, OCSP_CERTSTATUS notes.ini variables for a Domino server
   • Thanks to Jason Gary of the Deployments, Performance, & Interoperability (DPI) Lab for listening to me and sending me over to David Kern.
4. Internet Password Lockout – „3 strikes” for http (about time, I would say), but you can overrule it with user security policies for for CEOs or other users with special needs (rotfl)
   • Internet Password Lockout automatcially creates Inetlockout.nsf on each server and contains current lockout state
   • Deleting a user’s entry in inetlockout.nsf on the correct server will unlock
   • Each Inetlockout.nsf has the same replica ID, but replication is disabled by default
   • Lockout history is logged via DDM
   • Custom Login Forms can be created for locked out users
5. More development centric (some of this stuff is allready available in 7.0.2 but the sold it as „new in 8” ;) ):
   1. Need to add attributes to the <html> tag? In Domino 8, just use the „$$HTMLTagAttributes” field.
   2. Want to controll the doctype of the html-document and other „pre”-html-tag stuff? Use the „$$HTMLFrontMatter”. At last, we are able to „choose” the quirks-mode of the browser.
   3. $$HTMLOptions controls HTML generation at the form or field level. Valid (name=value pairs) are RowAtATimeTableAlt, ForceSectionExpan, ForceOutlineExpand, DisablePassThruHTML and TextExactSpacing.
   4. DisablePassThruHTML will be a way to prevent end-users from putting HTML tags into fields
   5. There is JSON support in Domino 8 URLs!!! And word of mouth has it, that this also works in Domino 7 (try it out ;). Just add „$OutputFormat=JSON” to „?ReadViewEntries”.

   6. New C-API to allow stand alone applications to access Notes documents and get back HTML. There are also routines for accessing URLs. This will make Rod Boothby very happy. ;)
   7. $Abstract – This field will hold the first n Bytes of Body field for display in a view
6. Domino 8 will have an I/O reduction by 50% (no new hardware necessary?)
7. New ODS version (optional on update) with these benefits:
   • design document compression will lead up to 50 % smaller templates
   • On demand Collations -> no additional view index for every sort-option in a view
   • Enhanced User Activities
8. Transaction logging optimization
9. General Availability for DB2 as a datastore
   • DB2->Notes user mapping eliminated for Query Views
   • official support for mail databases
   • Special fields (columns like Server, DBName) in DB2 Access Views
   • HTTP Parameterized Query Views -> @URLQueryString to use HTTP-parameters in SELECT-statements
10. Persistend Mail Threads – threads will render, even if the root of the message.exchange is not present
